Judge for Yourself
OK, you probably don’t spend a lot of time looking at other guys,
but here’s one time when you should. The photos on this page are
of real Men’s Rogaine Extra Strength users. They’re living
proof that Rogaine revitalizes hair follicles to re-grow hair.
Rogaine works in your scalp to enlarge your hair follicles and stimulate
hair regrowth. Here are two examples of how Rogaine worked for most men
with moderate degrees of hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia)
that used Rogaine for just 48 weeks in our clinical studies. Remember,
individual results with Rogaine vary, although most men respond to its
use. You may get better results if you have been losing hair for a shorter
period of time or have little hair loss. Be sure to use Rogaine only as
directed.
Why you need to stick with Rogaine to see results
Why do you need to use Rogaine for two to four months before seeing results?
It's like an exercise program. You don't run 10 miles your first day.
It takes time to build muscle. It's the same with your hair.
If your hair is thinning, it's because the hair follicles in your scalp
have been shrinking for years. That's where Rogaine works — inside
your scalp — to revitalize hair follicles and stimulate hair growth.
That's also why you need to stick with it for at least four months. If
you use Rogaine twice a day, every day, you should see results by then,
or maybe sooner. Use the Rogaine Results program to help keep you
on track.
Hairstyling with Rogaine
Thinking of using other hair care products with Men’s Rogaine Extra
Strength. Hair sprays, spritz, and styling aids will work just fine. Just
follow these helpful suggestions. Remember, it’s important to give
Rogaine time to work before you apply styling aids.
- After your morning application, wait 20 to 25 minutes before using
styling aids.
- Wait four hours before you shampoo your hair or go swimming. It needs
time to be absorbed into your scalp and shouldn't be washed off.
- To avoid irritation if you color, perm, or treat your hair with chemicals,
don’t use Rogaine the same day. It's OK to skip one day and resume
your regular routine the next day.

Rogaine Scientific Studies
In one scientific study after another, Rogaine has been proven to work.
The studies show that Rogaine regrows hair in most men, that men who start
using it at the first sign of hair loss have better chances of seeing
results, and the Men’s Rogaine Extra Strength regrows more hair
than Men’s Rogaine Regular Strength. So, what are you waiting for?
Proof: Rogaine works
Elise A. Olsen, M.D. Published in the Journal of the
American Academy of Dermatology, 47(3), 2002, pages 377-385.
This study demonstrated that for many men with hereditary hair loss (androgenetic
alopecia), the 5% topical minoxidil in Men's Rogaine Extra Strength worked
even better in stimulating hair regrowth than the 2% topical minoxidil
used in Men's Rogaine Regular Strength.
For this study, over 300 men aged 18 to 49 participated in a 48-week
trial. One group applied Men's Rogaine Extra Strength (5% minoxidil topical
solution) to the scalp twice a day, a second group used Men's Rogaine
Regular Strength (2% minoxidil topical solution), and a third group applied
a placebo liquid (a solution that had no hair regrowth ingredient).
Results showed:
- After 48 weeks of treatment, Men's Rogaine Extra Strength produced
45% more regrowth than was seen with Men's Rogaine Regular Strength.
- Based on scalp appearance, both patients and doctors rated Men's
Rogaine Extra Strength more effective in regrowing hair.
- New hairs began to grow earlier with Men's Rogaine Extra Strength.
- Both Men's Rogaine Extra Strength and Men's Rogaine Regular Strength
worked better than the placebo solution (the solution that had no hair
regrowth ingredient) in promoting hair growth.
- Only a small percentage of Men's Rogaine Extra Strength users, 6%,
experienced scalp itching or irritation. This occurrence was slightly
more frequent than it was in those men using Men's Rogaine Regular Strength.
Study: Topical Minoxidil Therapy in Hereditary Androgenetic Alopecia
By Richard De Villez, M.D. Published in the Archives
of Dermatology, 121(2), 1985, pages 197-202.
This study was conducted on men with hereditary hair loss (androgenetic
alopecia). The men applied topical minoxidil, the active ingredient in
Men's Rogaine, to the balding patch on the back of their head, where hair
could be counted and photographed. The study demonstrated not only that
Rogaine works, but also that men who use it earlier in their hair loss
process can expect a better chance of success.
Results showed:
- More than 55% of the men in the study regrew hair.
- Additionally, the men who were most likely to respond to Rogaine:
- Had been experiencing hair loss for less than 10 years
- Had a balding area that was less than 4 inches across
- Had more hairs in the center of the balding area
